Twelve things about this week

1. I tasted a pomegranate for the first time. Though it was slightly underripe (and extra tart), it was delicious! I was amazed at the beauty and creativity of the fruit. Hanging on a shrubby tree, it looks like a scarlet Chinese lantern--but when it's hacked open, the "arils"--or juice sacs surrounding the seeds--shimmer like so many luscious rubies. And the flavor is exotic and wonderfully fresh.

2. C.S. Lewis was a genius. I'm really wanting to read the Chronicles of Narnia again, and the Screwtape Letters, but alas (or not-so-alas) I'm already in the midst of three excellent books. Maybe next month!

3. The weather was weird. For one day, the chilly rainy weather revived hope in our hearts--the hope that autumn would, indeed, arrive (after all, it is late!). But alas--it was not to be. NO, it heated up after one measly day, crushing the last glimmer of hope in our poor overheated souls. Fall may postpone his appearance until Christmas--but at least the weather was nice today!

4. I did really, really well on my LeTU English Comp midterm!

5. I finally tackled the despicable Dirty Laundry Monster. He has haunted my bedroom floor for a week and a half! I woke up this morning determined to conquer--he was spot-cleaned, scrubbed and sudsed, tumble-dried, spread on the bed, folded neatly, ironed, hangered, and placed neatly in the drawers and closet. I have whipped him into meek submission (at least for another two weeks).

6. Twelve things!? I don't know if I can think of that many! I'll wrack my brain and be back promptly.

7. It's much easier to accomplish things when your desk is cleaned off.

8. (assuming a highly exaggerated western accent) This is fixin' to be a loooong post. I think "fixin'" is a uniquely Texan phrase. I had never heard it before moving here, and I was shocked to hear myself say it the other day! Maybe I should pay more attention in English class.

9. Dad took me to the Solheim to work out. It was so much more fun to do it together! I did upper-body and aerobic training, and I was really sore for the next few days. My muscles are growing, though, and by the end of the year I hope to be able to manage more than 5 situps and 3 pushups!

10. This week has been very stressful and frustrating for me. God used Amanda to really encourage me and pray for me, and today was great. I heard this song on the radio today and thought the lyrics were fitting-

Song of Hope - Robbie Seay Band

All things bright and beautiful You are
All things wise and wonderful You are
In my darkest night, You brighten up the skies
A song will rise

I will sing a song of hope
Sing along
God of heaven come down
Heaven come down
Just to know that You are near is enough
God of heaven come down, heaven come down

All things new
I can start again
Creator, God
Calling me Your friend
Sing praise, my soul
To the Maker of the skies
A song will rise

I will sing a song of hope
Sing along
God of heaven come down
Heaven come down
Just to know You and be loved is enough
God of heaven come down, heaven come down

Hallelujah, sing
Hallelujah, sing
Hallelujah, sing

I've done three "Twelve Things" lists so far. The first one only had ten things, purely by accident, and Dana noticed. So the next one only had ten things as a joke- I wanted to see if anyone would notice. (nobody did) I did it again this time. =) My next list will have twelve things on it, I promise!
